Welcome to ASL Lotus!
Hi! Welcome to ASL Lotus. ASL Lotus was established in August of 2020 and connects with many families across the United States. I am a Deaf tutor offering my services at $35 per person for 40 minutes via Google Meet. I teach Level 1, 2 and 3 for all ages 5 & up. I’m also offering a free initial session. If you are not sure where to start, no worries! We will figure it out in our first session!
A little about me… I was born profoundly Deaf to a hearing family. ASL is my first language. I received my cochlear implant when I was two years old and learned how to speak. I went to Phoenix Day School for the Deaf and I was also mainstreamed in high school. I started ASL Lotus because growing up I saw many of my Deaf/HOH peers struggle with basic communication with their family. They felt isolated and often acted out because of this.
I truly believe that every child deserves as many opportunities as possible to communicate and go with whichever works best for them! That is also why I am collaborating with my mother, Amanda Marsalis, a certified speech language pathologist to help anyone who needs speech therapy services for a reasonable price. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have. alyssa@asllotus.com or text only at (602)312-2316.

TESTIMONIALS
"We have been studying ASL with Alyssa for a year, and we look forward to every class! Our niece was born profoundly deaf in 2019 and received her cochlear implants in 2020 and 2021. But after her mom noticed that she didn’t always want to use her “helper ears” she encouraged the rest of the family to study ASL and recommended Alyssa.
After a year of lessons, we have not only built our ASL skills and deaf culture knowledge, but we’ve found a true friend. She’s funny, patient and immensely kind and caring. Every time we have an upcoming visit with our niece, Alyssa has gone above and beyond to craft special lessons to help us better communicate with her. When we first decided to study ASL it felt like a daunting task, but Alyssa has guided us through our ASL journey with such joy and care. She’s the best and we’re so lucky to have her as our teacher and friend."

"I've had lessons with Alyssa for the past 2 years, and at this point our whole family takes lessons with her. It's been wonderful for us. We're taking lessons because the littlest of our family was born deaf, so we want to communicate equally with him in our family. Alyssa is really easy to schedule with, flexible about her times and availability. Lessons are affordable and easily accessible online. She plays games to increase vocabulary and word retention, and every lesson is fun. She makes learning ASL accessible for everyone. I highly recommend Alyssa for your whole family!"

Classes with Alyssa are exciting and always fun! She is very patient, flexible, and kind in her approach to organizing a class to suit her various student needs. Now that I'm at an intermediate level, she is finding new challenges like sessions on Deaf news, or conversation, or more complicated vocabulary. She can just as easily switch gears for classes prepared for my 5 y.o. son whose first language is ASL and effectively keeps his attention and love of learning. Classes with ASL Lotus are a bright spot in our week and something wonderful to look forward to.
